Chapter History

The Beta Tau Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity has a long and rich history of participation in the greek community at USC. First established sometime between 1925 and 1928 as a chapter of Beta Kappa Fraternity, this chapter officially merged into Theta Chi in 1942. Our chapter grew quickly, remaining large and influential at USC for 50 years.

However, in the 1980's, our chapter started a gradual decline. By 1989, we were forced to lease our house to another fraternity, and in 1992 the Beta Tau chapter closed its doors, at all time low membership of 6.

However, that all changed in fall of 2003, when Theta Chi's Grand Chapter found a renewed interest in bringing Theta Chi back to USC. An interest group was established and quickly grew, becoming a formal colony in fall 2005.

Theta Chi Beta Tau was formally re-chartered on April 29, 2006, with 46 brothers being initiated. This was a huge accomplishment for our chapter: we literally started from scratch less than three years before and managed to grow to almost 50 members!

Since then, Theta Chi has been rapidly expanding. We recently got our house on Portland St. back, and it was completely remodeled during the summer of 2007. We've also been expanding our activities, so now we have more philanthropies, social events, and other exciting activities. We are a strong and healthy chapter that continues to see impressive growth, and we are very excited for what the future holds.
